I’m Jennifer Snyder, founder and owner of Jennifer’s Super Scented Candles, and I’m proud to introduce my business to you. We’re located in Dover, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., on the banks of the Conewago creek.

Jennifer’s Super Scented Candles began in the fall of 1998, when I decided to turn a long-time passion for scented candles into a business that would allow me to share what I believe is a superior product that I had personally developed through many months of trial and error. I love burning scented candles in my home – especially candles that have an intense smell and burn for a long time. Over the years I tried many different brands of candles, but I could never find one that quite suited me. I did like the well-known Yankee Candles, widely available in the Northeastern U.S., as they had the strongest scent of any I’d found, but when I realized I was burning at least one expensive Yankee Candle every month, I just couldn’t justify paying the high prices.

Then a friend and I spent a weekend in Williamsburg, Virginia. We visited all the shops, and I was delighted to discover a candle factory outlet which sold 5-pound blocks of colored wax, with all the necessary ingredients for making candles except for the scent. Right then and there I told my friend, “I’m going to make my own candles using this wax, and save myself a lot of money!” I knew I already had a large collection of jars saved from the candles I’d bought and burned, which I could re-use for my own hand-made candles. So I started a long, very informative conversation with the staff at the candle shop. By the time we left, I was so excited about the prospects for making my own candles, I purchased about 50 pounds of colored waxes, wicks, tabs, and scent to take home with me. My first efforts went really well; I was thrilled to make my own candles for a much more reasonable price than I’d been paying to buy someone else’s.

I couldn’t keep traveling to Williamsburg every time I needed more supplies, though, so I had to find somewhere closer to home to purchase the necessary ingredients for my candles. I found a supplier for the raw wax, but no one would tell me how to make the candles, starting from scratch. I learned the hard way that it was a complicated process and I must admit, I did begin to get discouraged. But I kept at it, and at my mother’s suggestion I found a manual on candle-making that got me going and sparked my interest again.

I started with a general recipe, but soon discovered that even the slightest deviation from the recipe results in drastic changes in the way a candle burns. I kept making candles, trying different formulas, and giving them away to my friends in exchange for their opinions. My biggest problem at the beginning was that the amount of scent I was using, to produce that intense smell I loved with my candles, resulted in all kinds of disappointments and near-disasters: everything from burning a hole right down the middle of the candle, to jars exploding because I’d used a wick that was too big.

It took me almost an entire year to perfect my secret recipe, and I still rely on customer feedback to guide me in making improvements to what I believe is already an excellent product. My candles are reasonably-priced, and contain the maximum scent I can put in each one. They have a beautiful, creamy appearance that goes with any décor; I’m proud to have my name on them. I believe if you try my candles, you’ll become a believer too, as so many other customers have. With a longer burn-time than other brands (achieved by adding a special hardener to the wax, hich slows the burning process), Jennifer’s Candles are truly a bargain for the serious candle-burning customer. You can expect approximately 100 hours of burn-time with my small candles, and about 175 hours with the large candles. This is what makes my candles unique.

As an avid consumer of scented candles myself, I know how frustrating it is to find a product I really like, and then to discover that it’s changed over time, as the company has grown larger and more successful. I will never resort to hooking you with a great product, only to compromise my standards and raise prices in the name of profits. We are still a small, family-owned and operated business, and I am personally responsible for the quality of every candle that leaves my shop. That’s why I feel confident in making the following pledge to all of my customers: Jennifer’s Super Scented Candles will not cut the scent of any candle, ever! I hope you enjoy our candles, and I thank you for visiting
